Answering the Call

March 3, 2013

A year ago I sent out a short e-mail to all my friends and supporters.  In that e-mail I listed three urgent requests I had.  While hundreds got the news, and no doubt prayed for help, I had very few responses.  A couple of people recommended a friend or two for the job, but I only had one serious response.  Mac and BK Bineham are a retired couple that I met only after my father died in the out-of-the-way place in Argyle, Texas.  I don’t think we had a conversation beyond “Hi”.   Mac and BK came from a life-time experience in education.  They are comfortably retired and have access to all the fun things they want to do.  As they prayed about the request it seemed as if God was telling them, “Go to Cambodia.”

After a phone call and arranging the scheduling Mac and BK arrived ten thousand miles away from their home in Texas in the hot and dusty (no, extremely dusty) town of Phnom Penh, Cambodia.  Here they worked every day with our new school, Antioch International School and with the more than 300 students who attend there.  In the beginning they planned to teach English, but with their experience I asked them to focus on the teachers and administration.  For two months they worked with staff on schedules, teaching techniques, and simple things like numbering classrooms.  They added key elements like internet, a library, carpet, and audio-visual aids.  Best of all they modeled Christ every day and the vice-principal even prayed to receive Christ!

Thanks Mac and BK!  Thanks for answering the call.

P.S. We still need a lot of help: Teachers, medical people, home schooling, dorm parents, graphic designers. . . God can use anyone and their skills if they are willing.

Praise the Lord for Mac and Bk’s willingness to give themselves into the work! May many, many more come to help!
